Gifts of Life with the World Pediatric Project
Continuing our focus on building the future of children, Capital Square recently made a contribution to World Pediatric Project (WPP), an incredible organization helping children with life-saving surgeries in some of the poorest parts of the world.
Through WPP, we were introduced to Diego, a two-year-old boy, and María Belén, a two-year old girl, both living in El Salvador and in need of life-saving heart surgeries that their families could not afford. Diego has been chronically ill for the entirety of his life, having been diagnosed with CHD (Congenital Heart Disease) shortly after he was born. María Belén was also born with CHD as well as Down Syndrome.
Thanks to Capital Square’s contributions, both children were able to receive the cardiac catheterization procedures that they so desperately needed. Both surgeries were successful, and we’re thrilled to follow along with their medical progress.
Diego’s parents look forward to giving their son a normal life, letting him go to kindergarten soon and play easily without any more restrictions on his physical activities. María Belén’s family saw the December 2022 procedure as a Christmas present that would give them all greater peace and optimism than they’ve had for years.
Capital Square’s continued support of the World Pediatric Project (WPP) means that our donations have been used to help enable:
- 13 surgical teams to travel to Central America to reach 480 children
- 14 surgical and diagnostic teams to travel to the Caribbean region to reach 600 children
- 6 neonatal care teams to be mobilized to WPP partner countries
- 45 children to travel to the U.S. or regional partner hospitals for complex surgical care
And all of this was by June 30, 2023.
From our contributions that allowed for Diego and Maria Belen’s surgeries to being a presenting sponsor of the World Pediatric Partnership’s 14th Annual Rock ‘n’ Heal event in May 2023 and beyond, we are honored to build the future for the children in our community and around the world. It’s one more way Capital Square Cares.
